The Ballad of Johnny and June is up first in our 2024/25 Season, starting in late May. We talked to the show's co-writer, Robert Cary, about what we can look forward to with this world-premiere musical.

The production uses Johnny and June’s beloved songs to illustrate the story of the lives of these legendary musicians. "It would be impossible to cover every song they are known for. But we cover a great many of them. Certainly, the really big hits are all there," Robert said.

"They're both really rich artists. Johnny Cash was a poet and a wordsmith as well as a songwriter and performer. He had a lot of talents and gifts, and June Carter was also a tremendously evolved songwriter as well as a comedian and a singer and an actress."

"I think that the show will give the audience the music they love and put it in an exciting and sometimes unexpected context - their story is always in motion."
